30 records, 1 iPhone.
It’s been over a month since the last record list, and I really enjoyed the last list for a long time. So many albums were on high rotation over the last month. I think I’ll be doing the same this round too, I found having longer time with the 30 records I was able to listen and become more in tune with their sounds.  So here is the list. 01. Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I...

Mixtape - 1982 to 2012
This Saturday I’m celebrating my 30th birthday and with any decade turn in my life I always like to give a gift to friends, family and anybody else out there. When I was 10 I drew pictures for kids at school, when I was 20 I made mix CD’s for friends and now 30 I’m giving anybody reading this a mixtape celebrating the last 30 years in music. The theme for this mixtape is pretty simple, select...

30 records, 1 iPhone.
My last selection was all about the ‘surf rock’ and I really enjoyed getting to enjoy music from bands like The Ventures and The Tornadoes. It was a really magical time in music.  I actually selected these albums below before heading out on some travel for work last week. When I know I have about 7 to 8 hours of travel in a day, I want to have albums that are epic landscapes to sit...

30 records, 1 iPhone.
For the last two weeks the few albums that stood out on the list were Anna Calvi’s self titled, The Cure’s - Wish (especially A Letter to Elise), The Day of the Dead - Kill or Be Killed (inspired this rounds theme), Beck - Sea Change (the record finally clicked with me) and it was great to revisit Rancid’s - Life Won’t Wait.  I did mention my concerns about The Living...

How I spent my Sunday afternoon upcycling an old...
When Bernard grew too big to fit under his favourite table, we had to remove the shelf in the middle. But what to do with it? … aww, look at little Bernard!  Over a year and bit later, I had an idea. So I hacked it apart to build a toy box for Bernard. 2 hours later here we have it! All cut up and painted in our usual bright colours. I made the sides slope up for Bernie can step in...

30 records, 1 iPhone.
Let me start off by saying this, Wanda Jackson totally blew my mind the last 2 weeks, I am totally in love with her and her sound. Other loves from the last selection of 30 records were Ray Condo and His Ricochets - Swing Brother Swing! and The Reverend Horton Heat - It’s Martini Time (The Rev is back for another 2 weeks with another record this time).  This time I’m looking back to a few...

30 records, 1 iPhone.
It’s been another fortnight and selecting another 30 records. Last time the collection made me realise there are some bands I’ve tried to click with on numerous times and for whatever reason, they just don’t do anything for me. The records came as recommendations and while on paper I ‘should’ enjoy them, I just don’t. That’s really been a part of this...

My Grandfather's His Master's Voice fridge, circa...
Above is a 1950’s His Master’s Voice (HMV) fridge and was owned by my late grandfather (Pop). Ever since I was a small child he would say to me “One day Simon, that fridge will be yours.” He passed away 6 years ago, then recently my Nanna has moved out of their house into an aged care facility and now their house of 35 years is empty. My Nanna has allowed me to move this wonderful family...

30 records, 1 iPhone.
Another few weeks, I’ve removed all the albums that were on this list and now have a new collection on my iPhone. I really enjoyed rediscovering a few records like Passion Pit - Manners, Eagles of Death Metal - Death by Sexy and Art Brut’s - Bang Bang Rock n Roll. I hadn’t really clicked with Black Tie White Noise by Bowie before, but there was something about listening to it in...

I only have 30 albums on my iPhone at a time.
I love music, I have a 32GB iPhone and I have over 700+ artists in my iTunes.  For most people with a similar amount of space and music collection their portable music player would be full of music, not for me though. I like to put a personal limit on the amount of music I carry, 30 albums by 30 artists.  Why?  It’s a way of forcing myself to listen to albums in full, as I always believe...
