I honestly thought it would take me longer to back up all 200+ live recordings, but today I finished the final disc. It is a satisfying experience to now be able dispose of all the physical copies of these discs, less ‘life clutter’ now.
There were a few reasons to finally “digitalize” all the recordings, one being space. While 200+ discs don’t take up that much room, it still is a slight waste in this digital age. However it was a few months ago I realised I had not listened to some of these recordings in years, mainly as my iPhone (and iPod, AppleTV) are my main listening methods I’ve become lazy digging through all these discs to track down that version of ‘Razor’ the Smashing Pumpkins played in Germany in 1992 … for example.
So with that, it is done. All ID tags, all in my iTunes all ready to be listened to. It was a great experience and listening to some recordings of bands like Radiohead or The White Stripes reminded me of why I love those artists … it was a journey of rediscovery. The late nights, piled CD’s around the house and time spent was totally worth it.
